About the Author
Ann Maddock is a lifelong educator with a career spanning 45 years. She was a science teacher for 25 years before being appointed as Teacher Advisor to the Governor of North Carolina from 2001-2009. She has served as an education policy consultant to state and national leaders.
Ann began photographing hummingbirds in 2009 as a hobby. Her background in biology made her a quick study as she observed various species and built her knowledge about these birds. As her photography skills improved, her natural interest in the habits, behaviors, and characteristics of hummingbird species became a guiding influence in the selection of her photographic subject matter.

Ann’s collection of photos of the three endemic species of hummingbirds in The Bahamas (the Cuban Emerald, the Bahama Woodstar and the recently recognized species, the Inagua Woodstar) is one of the most extensive known among hummingbird enthusiasts.
Ann and her husband live on Hatteras Island, North Carolina.
